  1. Critical Thinking: Students will clearly show the existence of actively conceptualizing, applying, evaluating the information gathered to various aspects of business challenges by showing dependable and well-thought perspectives that drive change.
  2. Technology and Analytical: Students will clearly show the existence of understanding how businesses use digital technology to succeed and how to use the same technology to solve business challenges.
  3. Communications: Students will be able to demonstrate effective and practical communication to business situations, generate professional business documents, effectively collaborate in a team environment, and prepare and deliver effective oral presentations.
  4. Application & Evaluation: Students will be able to apply critical thinking, technology and analytical and communication skills to business situations and formulate business strategies while effectively managing expected outcomes.

  • The final capstone project shows understanding of Business content areas (business communications, accounting, marketing, finance, organizational behavior, legal environment of business, management information systems, and strategy).

Research

  • The capstone project provides well-researched information, contain a broad range of credible sources, show familiarity with the conventions of academic research, draw heavily on peer-reviewed research, properly cite research.
  • In terms of research, a superior capstone project uses a broad range of pertinent, current academic and professional sources; provides accurate and complete citations; and shows good judgment in its choice of sources and citations.

Critical thinking

  • The capstone project is insightful and generates new knowledge or insights on a significant topic.
  • The capstone project poses interesting and significant questions about its subject, it moves past facile and conventional treatments of the business challenges facing the subject.
  • The capstone project will make connections that help drive a deeper understanding of the strategic situation in which the subject finds itself.

  • Graphs and other visual presentations are helpful, clear, and well designed.
  • In terms of writing, the capstone project uses clear, compelling, and accurate data; skillfully analyzes it; and presents the data in accurate, detailed prose and graphics that capture the reader’s attention and facilitate understanding. 
  • The capstone project will clearly show the existence of understanding how businesses use digital technology to succeed and how to use the same technology to solve business challenges.

Communication & Writing skills

  • The capstone project is well written/communicated.
  • The capstone project encourages the reader/viewer to keep reading/viewing.
  • The material is well organized.
  • The introduction and conclusion serve their purposes well.
  • Within written chapters, the capstone project uses well-prepared paragraph structure to help the reader follow the argument.

  • The capstone project uses introductions, conclusions and transitions between logical units to help the reader/viewer.
  • In terms of writing, a superior capstone project is written clearly and concisely, in a style that emphasizes action and agency (clarity about “who is doing what”).
  • The capstone project is clearly organized, chapter-by-chapter, section-by-section, and paragraph by paragraph.
  • The capstone project applies effective and practical communication, research, and technological skills to business situations, presents professional business documents, works effectively in teams, and prepares and delivers effective oral presentations.

Ethical awareness

  • The capstone project is ethically aware.
  • For Strategy capstone projects, the capstone project shows a deep understanding of the ethical challenges the subject faces in doing business, both within the broad marketplace (in terms of how customers, partners competitors, and the external environment are treated) and within the organization itself (in terms of how employees are treated).
  • The capstone project shows awareness of the subject's mission, vision, and core values, and the degree to which these are adhered to in the subject's operations.
  • For Business Plan capstone projects, the capstone shows a broad understanding of the ethical challenges a new business and the entrepreneur will face, particularly in terms of competition, marketing, and building a business.
