Juris Doctor (JD) Program

The Juris Doctor (JD) degree is a traditional law school program that is designed to prepare students for entry into the legal field, particularly the practice of law in the State of California and within the Federal Court System.

Additional Program Details

This program allows students to receive comprehensive instruction beginning with Contracts, Torts, and Criminal Law, and upon successful completion of the First Year Law Students’ Exam (FYLSX), continues through intermediate and upper-level legal topics. The main objective of the School of Law program is to provide students with a strong background in the legal profession and to become a successful attorney.

Please note:

Students must successully pass the First-Year Law School Examination within 3 administration
Students must complete MPRE test within the first four years
Students must pass the General Bar Examination to began legal practice

Prepare students for the basic professional degree in law.
Encourage students to develop analytical thinking, mental alertness, and effective communication skills.
Provide a comprehensive understanding of the profession of law and the legal systems of the United States.
Train students to become eligible to sit for the California Bar Examination and practice law in the State of California and in Federal Courts.

Admission Requirements
Entry Requirements for the JD Program The JD requires a minimum of 60 semester units or no more than 90 quarter units.

The J.D. Degree programs adhere to the California State Bar Pre-Legal Education Regulations under Title 4 Admissions and Educational Standards. Chapter 3. Required Education Rule 4.25 General Education in determining the qualifications of those applicants who plan to attend law school and become members of the California Bar.

We often enroll students from out of state and one of the questions they often ask is whether or not they can practice in their respective state. The answer to this is addressed by National Conference of Bar Examiners through a comprehensive Guide to Bar Admission Requirements.

The 2018 ABA's State Bar Admissions Requirements Guide provides annually updated information on bar admission requirements in all U.S. jurisdictions, including a directory of state bar admission agencies. It is published in collaboration with the American Bar Association and a copy can be reviewed here.
