MB-600: Capstone Experience

Course Description

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program provides training in business for students interested in understanding the working nature of business in a competitive environment. Courses in the MBA program integrate information and theories from various disciplines, including accounting, economics, finance, marketing, production operations and strategic management. The objective of this program is to develop students into broadly educated business decision makers who understand the nature of business as a whole, with the tools and techniques applicable to a wide variety of business situations. The capstone for the MBA program gives students the chance to synthesize all of the theories, skills and tools studied during the program and integrate them into a learning experience that highlights the nature of competition and the kind of strategic decision making that must be done in order to succeed.  Students are faced with case study and the development and presentation of a business plan.  Students will be able to apply knowledge learned in the program to business simulations. Through the use of CAPSIM, students will have opportunity to put business theory into practice by making real-world decisions in a safe, competitive and fun learning environment. CAPSIM capstone is an advanced strategy business simulation that allows participants to apply what they’ve learned across all disciplines of business in a competitive and engaging learning environment. The final week will be dedicated to individual performance in a simulation environment where students using Capsim’s Cap-XM’s.  In this exam students will individually simulate four years of operation simulation followed by and exam simulating questions from the simulated board. Cap-XM—The Competency Exam from Capsim, uses a simulated business environment and questions to test students’ achievement of the learning goals in line with nationally recognized standards of accreditation for business schools. Students work individually and compete against other computer-simulated companies as well as answering strategy related questions. Grading is distributed on a curve based on your performance against your classmate’s scores (calculated by the platform using the Balanced Scorecard). These goals are focused on the institutions program learning outcomes that a student is expected to have mastered at the completion of the capstone course.

At the completion of this course, a student will be able to:        
  1. Synthesize ethics, leadership, strategy, critical thinking and reasoning skills in a business environment.
  2. Integrate professional applied research in order to validate and justify decision making.
  3. Formulate information in order to communicate effectively across the appropriate channels.
  4. Utilize appropriate technology to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in order to accomplish organizational goals and objectives.
  5. Combine the major functional areas of business administration including the critical skills necessary to solve business problems, individually and collaboratively.
